Hunter Update

Hunter boy is doing well. He was 9 weeks old on Monday - 1/30/12.

He has probably doubled in size during the 2 weeks we've had him. After one week at our house, Nathan had trained him to go to the door and scratch when he needed to go potty. He is still doing so well with the potty training. The chewing is c-r-a-z-y, but we just keep trying to work with him.

He is starting to explore more outside...things like eating leaves and digging holes in the dirt. He still bounces around when he runs and waddles when he is walking slow. He's taken over a few soft blankets I had and my house slippers. He's a spoiled pup, for sure! We get excited to get home to him after we've been away for awhile. He still stays locked up in his cage/activity center while we are away. We don't quite trust him to roam free while we are at work.

He definitely seems to be Nathan's buddy. He listens to him better and always tries to curl up in Nathan's lap. He does ok hanging out with me too though :)

I think I'm getting antsy for Spring. Christmas is over and I'm seeing bright colors and new looks every time I go in a store! Of course, here in Indiana we have a while before we'll be feeling Spring temps!

I've found out that little puppies like long flowy skirts. Gives them something to chase after and bite at! :) We finally got Hunter a bigger cage, actually an activity center, and he seems to be adjusting. I hate the thought of leaving him in there while we are at work all day, but I know he will adjust to that as well. He's at least letting us sleep through the night a little bit better now.

We went to Ohio this weekend to pick up our new puppy, Hunter. He is part Lab, part Golden Retriever. And we are in love with him already! Well, besides the fact that he doesn't want to sleep at night :)

Isn't he so precious?! He did so good in the car and is already adjusting well to his new home.

I might need some advice on how to train this little fella...I can only handle so many messes before I stick to my word and make him an outdoors dog :)

Nathan & I had a little date this past weekend. Nothing real fancy, but I enjoyed spending time with my man. It was a sweet reminder of when we were teenagers and would plan a date every Saturday evening. We talked about our future and made plans for things we hope will happen in 2012. It's great starting a new year and thinking of the possibilities! Thank you, Saturday, for bringing me such a wonderful day. It was exactly what I needed!

I got the above dress on clearance @ Penneys. I hardly ever go in there and ended up finding a few treasures during my stop. The pattern isn't something I'm normally drawn to, but I love the style and it is super comfy. I'm ready for spring now!!

Can you believe this darling jacket? At Goodwill? It was my size and I snatched it up before anyone else could get a second look. I couldn't believe it didn't have a fabric flaw or even a missing button. The ridiculous part of this story is that this jacket has been hanging in my closet for months and months with no attention. Resolutions

Why bother, huh?! Well, I always feel like I'm starting off the new year in a good place if I have a fresh outlook and some goals (whether vocalized or not). I try not to create goals or new year resolutions for myself that are unattainable. Really, will I become a millionaire this year? Not likely. BUT will I strive to be more punctual this year? Now that is something I can easily work toward. I say easily and if it was that easy I would already make it ON TIME to appointments. Let's just get it out here, I AM LATE TO EVERYTHING! Don't tell Nathan, but it is even starting to get on MY nerves.

I would find a way to be late even if I gave myself an extra hour to get ready. I'm just always finding something to do - primping, piddling or just enjoying my sleep too much to get up and get around. I'm already making great strides (yes, I realize it is only Jan 3rd!) and we made it to church ON TIME for BOTH services Sunday! Whew...that said, now we'll see if I can keep this up!

Now this is like admitting I am still a child, but you'll see a connection here...
I am horrible at folding or hanging up my clothes AND putting them away. It has been practically impossible for me to keep up with this chore. The connection you see is the fact that I have not been very disciplined. That's changing! Yeah, yeah, we all say that at the beginning of a new year. I'm going to try to be accountable on my blog. I know I could lie to you about it, but that's really not my practice :)

My other "goals" will take thought and effort, but I would really like to be a better friend and compassionate to those around me. I have felt really wrapped up in my own life over the last year and not as sensitive to others as I would like to be. I think that is an easy place to end up - it's not like we are all sitting at home with absolutely nothing to do, right?! And no, I'm not suggesting that if you don't work outside the home that is your life. Trust me...I realize working within your home and raising children is more WORK than my full-time job! The point I'm making is you can touch someone else's life easily by putting effort into reaching outside your four walls. Say "thank you" often, smile, provide a listening ear, pray for someone you know is going through a battle...and let them know you are, send a card/email or even take an hour or two to help a friend around their house. Try it - you'll see the difference it makes in your own life. Changing my perspective on my own situation changes the attitude I have towards other people as well. It's simple, yet amazing.

That's all I've got...remember, I said I'm a realist. I think those are some big areas to improve myself and I'm going to work REAL HARD on it.

Our church hosted a 'Live Nativity' over this past weekend. In the manger scene, Nathan & I played Mary & Joseph. On Sunday night we had a goat jump through the window of our Stable! I guess he just really wanted to meet baby Jesus! :)

This was our first attempt and it was a lot of fun! We had close over 200 people come through. I know it took a lot of teamwork and I thought it was a real success. We had 7 total scenes...I hope next year we are able to build off of our efforts this year and make it even bigger!

Well, I do. I had to laugh when I looked in the mirror this morning after I got done blow drying my hair. I turned my head upside down to give me some extra volume and wow, it was BIG! What I've Been Up To...

I was able to go over to my parent's house last week and help with flowers for a family friend's wedding. It was a big wedding with fresh flowers so it was definitely a big undertaking! I enjoyed the time with my parents and the laughs we shared during the project! Our sarcastic sides definitely come out after that much time together! :)

My office also moved last week. We have been blessed with growth in our business and had to move to a bigger office space. I have a gorgeous new office :) But let's face it, moves are a lot of work! We are still unpacking files and trying to find places for everything. I must say, I was happy to be able to talk them into getting rid of a lot of ~~junk~~ old paperwork!

My oldest brother, Drew, and his family came home for Thanksgiving. I was so happy they were able to stay at my house this year. I even took a night to stay up and help with the twins. We had such a good time with them!

The Saturday after Thanksgiving my cousin, Tim, got married. We had extended family in town for the wedding and made a lot of memories together. Nathan was an usher at the wedding and Mom caught me smooching on him! :)

I NEVER get flowers, so this a big deal to me. My Dad brought me a beautiful bouquet of flowers last weekend. Even included a sweet card :) Thank you, Dad! I love them.

Wedding Madness

I think I mentioned this a few weeks back, but we have weddings 3 weekends in a row. I helped decorate and pull details together for a friend's wedding last weekend. (and FAILED to get any quality pics!) I love weddings and the team effort that goes into making one happen :)

On Friday we decorated the Reception Hall and then had a tea together at a Victorian Team Room in our town. It was so fun and a perfect time to relax.

I have to note here, my husband got roped into helping with all of the little details as well. Here we were Friday evening trying to create these tissue balls for the Reception Hall. Well, I had already tried and could not get them to resemble a ball at all. Here Nathan & Jimmy are helping with the decorations! :)

I'm so excited this year because I get to have company! Normally around each holiday when my brothers come into town they stay with my parents. This year, my oldest brother and his family are staying at my house! Nathan & I have been trying to pull things together to make the house presentable.

I changed out the bedding and moved things around in the room. I just have to have some change every once in awhile and this room seemed so blah to me! I love it now. I also have hydrangeas on the bookshelf ...all compliments of the wedding I helped with over the weekend. I may hang curtains in here yet...still debating that, but once I get the picture hung over the bed, we'll be all set in here.

I told you last week that Nathan was working on the siding. Bless his heart, it has been so windy and he has just kept plugging away on this project. We have half of the house done now. He's just been working on it a little at a time!

Now that we are getting the siding up, we are realizing how badly we need shutters. Come Spring, hopefully we can get the post up on the porch and continue sprucing up the outside! :)

Fall Fun

My nephew, Kent, participated in a Jr. Convention for his school last weekend. Mom & I were so glad we could go to Michigan and watch him compete. He participated in archery, clay sculpture, sketching, basketball, 100 meter dash, puppet show and small group ensemble. He walked away with 5 - 2nd place medals and 1 - 3rd place medal. Way to go, Kent Michael! :)

Over the weekend, Nathan's parents gave us some broccoli from their garden. We wanted to freeze it to have during the winter. While Nathan was going through it, Luke & Ella enjoyed finding worms. I thought this picture was hilarious. They were purposely just looking through the broccoli to find worms! Gross! :)

At least after the cleaning process, we were able to come out with 16 freezer bags! Yummy!

I've never felt more put together in a thrifted piece! I found this dress at Goodwill a couple of weeks back...love it! It is in perfect condition and fits me great. There is a pleat at the bottom of the v-neck, great embellishment for a plain black dress. The belt is old, but something I thought added some interest and shape.

Last night I go to leave work around 5:30 (almost dark) and realize I don't have my work keys to lock up the office. Of course I was staying later than anyone else that evening so I was trying to figure out a solution on my own. Nathan called in the middle of all of this to see when I was coming home because he doesn't like me to be down here by myself after dark. Well, I couldn't even remember where my keys were in order for him to bring them to me. He mentioned I could call our landlord or building security and maybe they would be able to help. I call (at 5:30) and the operator tells me she will submit the request for someone to come over and lock up. Of course I'm thinking this means someone is on their way.

By 6:10 my patience was getting low! I know this is my fault and all, but if I have to spend the night in my office they could have at least told me! :) So I called back and had to leave a voicemail, requesting he give me an estimated time of when he would be there to lock the door. No response. By 6:30 I started wondering through our building trying to find the cleaning people to see if they had a master key or something. THANKFULLY THEY DID! She said she would take care of it. After I insisted that I could not leave until I saw her lock the door, she went upstairs and locked everything up. You can bet that the first thing I did when I got home was find my keys and immediately put them in my purse. I will not be this forgetful ANYTIME soon!

When I plan things out, I don't like when my plans don't happen as I anticipate. However, I realize in the scheme of things this wasn't really that big of a deal. My busy life lately is catching up with me. I'm definitely trying to focus and accomplish some things over the next few weeks. I need my organization back! :)

Laundry Room

I've never had an actual laundry room before, so when we got this house, I was pretty excited about having the extra space. I've mentioned before my visions for this room were more magazine-like than functional, but with some compromising from both me and the man, we are making it work for each of us.

My pantry shelves were bowing from the weight of our canned goods and I wanted an overflow area anyhow, so Nathan put this shelf in the laundry room/mud room for some extra storage. Also, while I was out of town last weekend, he painted and installed a shelf in this cabinet for me. I wanted something pretty, but we were using the cabinet that was in the house before we bought it. Using some materials we already had on hand and some time, he made it exactly like I was envisioning. I'll find some door knobs and it will be good to go! I'm SO thankful for this space!!

Trunk-or-Treat 2011

I have never participated in a Trunk-or-Treat so I didn't really know what to expect. Our church hosted our first one last evening and it was a big success. We had a bounce house, food, drinks and plenty of candy to go around! I went with a theme where we already had items I could use to decorate my trunk.

While I was in Kansas meeting my new niece, Morgan, my brother & his wife in Michigan gave birth to twin girls. In a matter of three days, we have 3 new little baby girls in our family! SO MUCH FUN! :)

Fall 2011

I'm not much for seasonal decorations. I don't like to put my everyday decor away, so I don't normally end up putting out much. Since I didn't decorate for ANYTHING last year, I decided I was going to incorporate a few Fall items into my home this year.

I have so enjoyed the temperatures and beautiful colors of Fall. I don't know if it is my age or the fact that I'm feeling more secure and settled, with finally being in our home. Regardless of the reason, I'm enjoying a splash of color here and there from the kitchen/dining room on into the living room.

All of my Fall items are old...things I've collected over the years. The tray on my dining room buffet was thrifted and the items inside I think I collected from Walmart. The pumpkins on top of my fridge are from a little antique shop in the town where my Mom lives. The arrangement on my accent table in the living room is from Walmart and the wicker pumpkin on the console table is from the Dollar Spot at Target.

House Project: 10/22/11

This has been a ~~LONG~~ rewarding project! From June 2010 when we first looked at this house and even now as we live in the midst of a project, I'm amazed at the transformation!

The front step, sidewalk to the drive and across the front of the house were in bad shape. They were causing drainage issues and also unstable as they had cracked and were no longer flat surfaces.

The day I pulled in the drive and my front door had been painted was a BIG deal. I realize my house still doesn't have siding, BUT I DO have a painted front door finally :) I've realized during a project like this, it is sometimes the little things that you become SO thankful for!

Our goal is to eventually stain the concrete. For now, I'm just ever so thankful to have a step and poured sidewalks. Yah for progress!

My hair is just doing its own thing lately. I've been pulling it back in a clip more than I care to admit simply because I feel like I can't tame it. Of course, part of this is MY FAULT since I am not a morning person and haven't developed enough discipline to get up early and be able to take my time getting ready. Realizing you have a problem is the first step...I'm well on my way to recovery! :)

At dinner last evening, my husband pointed out that we've had Mexican food for supper every night this week! Hmmm...hadn't dawned on me. I was just thinking that we were doing good to actually have supper prepared every night this week! Am I the only working woman with such high goals? :) haha

I admit it, I go through phases where I could care less to be in the kitchen. When I'm in the mood AND actually have the time I can put together a decent meal...that just hasn't really happened much lately. Apparently I can only focus on one thing at a time. Doesn't do much for my desire to have children while knowing that I will be a working Mom, huh?! I'll keep developing my multi-tasking skills...until then, I guess we'll just be eating Mexican food EVERY.SINGLE.NIGHT. :)

So...I have this dress on backwards. You read that right!

The front has a deep V. Instead of covering up the pretty detail on the back, I tried it on this way to see if I could both have a higher neckline and show the embellishment. I was pretty excited that it worked and I didn't have flowy material draped across my shoulder blades :)

Loved this outfit...simply out of comfort more than anything else. I had plans after work so it seemed appropriate to make sure I had something on that would last with me throughout the evening. This is one of those days where I just kept layering until I realized I had on ENOUGH pieces! It works, I guess. I was comfy, warm and casual enough for Friday at the office.

I promise my scarf isn't neon yellow...the color appears is quite bold here! I tried tying it differently once I got to work and like it a lot better. Just picture it tied like this and know that I'm serious, it looked better :)

After I went outside to snap a few pictures, the curls just fell out of my hair! I seriously should have just sported a ponytail today. It will probably end up there yet!

The ladies I work with have been on me about the amount of Pepsi I drink. Probably just because I've been complaining about a stomach ache quite a bit. I think it is just nerves, but I have to admit that the acid intake in my diet can't be terribly healthy either. So...I'm trying to reward myself with a Pepsi IF I drink a bottle of water FIRST. I know this doesn't seem like much to most ~~normal~~ people, but I just don't drink water. My hope is to continue to (weekly) add more water into my diet. I've tried numerous times to go off pop, but pretty much I lack in the discipline department. Sad, but true!

Am I extremely pathetic that I feel like I need to photograph when my house is this picked up?! :) I'm standing in the kitchen to take this picture and I love how open the floor plan is. I just love my little home and feel so grateful every time we are able to get something else finished with the project.

Saturday I worked on this little art project. I had a print out of this scripture verse and wanted to put it on a canvas covered with burlap. I simply hot glued the items together and have it leaning on my kitchen counter. Oh, and I have real pears on my counter thanks to our tree finally producing some fruit.

When I was in Cincinnati over Labor Day weekend, I fell in love with my friend's coffee table. I just love the way she decorates and always enjoy looking at the updates throughout her home. Greatest thing is, she does it on a dime. She had this glass top coffee table, but saw something she thought her husband could build. That he did...I just love the finished product! It looks great with the other pieces in her living room!

Last evening I had plans to meet up with some friends for dinner and a little shopping. The temperatures have really cooled off, so I was glad to have a sweater and long skirt.

I'm on the hunt for a long maxi skirt. I have a few, but think for Fall and Winter they would definitely be nice. They seemed to be EVERYWHERE until I was on the lookout for one. I want tan, gray or another color and preferably for under $30...choosy much, why yes I am! :) Can y'all help me? I found one at Old Navy, but it had pleats in both the front and back = unflattering!

Through It All...I Believe!

This past month has been an emotional roller coaster. I am well aware that my feelings control me at times and I lose my focus, but it has just been a lot to stomach. My brother has been having severe migraines for the past month. Since he had a brain tumor several years back, this is always concerning for our family. He has been unable to work for nearly 4 weeks and in bed most of the time. His strength was gone, and holding his head up for more than practically two hours at a time was more than he could handle. Seth is such a hard worker and I knew this was all SO HARD on him! Many tests were ran and doctors were seen...only to be told they could not find the reason behind his pain. He was on so much pain medicine that functioning normal was out of the question...

Life is starting to get back to normal. That is almost hard to say as you don't want normal to mean that days for your family will no longer include laughs, conversations or smiles shared with someone they loved. On August 24, I received news from Seth that his sister-in-law passed away unexpectedly that evening. Seth was already going through so much and now they were feeling another blow. Seth's wife is nearly 34 weeks pregnant with their second baby, trying to take care of Seth and now has to deal with the sudden loss of her sister and the shared responsibility of her sister's children. Natalie is so strong! I went and spent several days with them and all I have to say is, God knows what we are facing and He knows when to bring strength and peace.

God allowed us to be a support to Seth and his family during this tragic time. His presence has never felt so real than when I sat in the funeral service and sang, "Here Is Here" with the congregation and heard words of love and support declared through a difficult situation.

Through of all of this Seth was not getting any better. We had to come home and that 11 hour drive was harder than being there in the middle of all of the chaos. I just wanted to be there and help or support their family. Thankfully, this past week, Seth has been able to get relief. He has little strength and he can easily overdue it and end up with a headache, but we are thankful for the relief that God has given him! I have never felt so helpless than looking on their recent situation and knowing I couldn't take away their physical or emotional pain.

I'm so glad God can bring comfort that 'man' cannot understand or provide. Even with the distance between us, I can rest assured that their family is 'being taken care of'! They have so many decisions to make and feelings to process...all I can do is pray and have faith. Pray for Seth's continued progress and that he will be able to work and pray for comfort and wisdom for a family that is aching from loss.

So...dealing with all of this has caused me to take a step back. Posting about my outfits has seemed highly trivial compared to what was really going on around me. I know this is heavy for a public blog, but I've shared quite a bit about my life over the past years. I've learned that people that do not know me personally actually still care about the concerns that I'm facing. The new 'normal' is returning and life is settling down some. Fall activities are quickly taking over my calendar and the anticipated arrival of 3 new babies in our family is making for some fun times together again. Yet, just because moving on seems like part of life, I don't want to forget.

A thought to leave you with...

I've had this vest for years and the style just wasn't working for me. It was long in the front and made to tie...that look just feels awkward or juvenile on me. I decided I was either getting rid of it or making it functional, so I got out my scissors and started cutting! I reshaped the front and used my ever famous hemming tape on the edges. I love it now! Do these projects always turn out? Absolutely not, but this one did and I'm happy with the outcome.

Number Ten

Our 10th wedding anniversary was last week. I needed the down time to relax and recharge so we took advantage of the holiday weekend to get out of town. On Friday afternoon we headed over to Cincinnati and had dinner at Terry's Turf Club with some friends. Fun atmosphere...extremely greasy burgers!

On Saturday we went to Lexington and enjoyed the scenery of the old homes and beautiful horse parks. Our friends recommended Ramsey's and we were so glad we went there. Yummy food and let me just mention the delicious apple pie! :) Yum!

Sunday was low key and hanging out in Cincinnati. Our tradition is to go to Riverfest every year and watch the awesome fireworks show, BUT this year it was raining so hard and we were kind of tired so we just stayed in and watched them on TV. The view was much better, but we did miss the experience of being downtown (Nathan's comment: minus the traffic and rude people).

Life

Today I am hurting. This past week has been so tough for people I care about - physically and emotionally. I am dealing with feelings of my own and trying to be a support to them. Today I feel empty and drained. I know a good nights rest will do wonders for me and am looking forward to a weekend away with my man!

Our 10 year wedding anniversary is today. It's so hard to celebrate when I think of all of the hurt and confusion going on around us. However, I'm so thankful for Nate and the love & support he brings into our home. For now I'm just counting my blessing and making sure the people in my life know I love them!

A quick review of my week...

We finally have corn! Monday evening Nathan picked this wheelbarrel heaping load. We spent the rest of evening husking, blanching and bagging corn and only made it through half by 11:30 PM. After giving some away and working on it yet another evening, we ended up with 25 quart bags of corn for the freezer. I was pretty proud of Nathan's garden and the yummy corn for our freezer! He said we'll get more yet...if that's the case, I'm just glad it didn't all come on at once! Whew!

Nathan has been wanting and saving for a grill since Spring. The money always seemed to go towards something else, so when he finally saw it again (and on sale!) I encouraged him to snatch it up! He was so excited to bring his grill home and put it together. So of course, I made him pose with said grill, which of course, made him feel silly! I'm guessing that is only because he knew the picture would appear on the blog!! He was right...just never tell him I actually admitted such a thing :)

All of that to say we have been enjoying some yummy grilled food this week. AND I'm super appreciative of the help when it comes to dinner preparation!!

Birthday Thoughts

I had a wonderful birthday weekend. It wasn't extravagant, but it was a 4-day weekend and was good for me none the less. I was able to catch up on a few things at home and I simply needed the down time.

We were also able to have some enjoyable moments with friends and family. My friend's 7 year old little boy got everyone's attention when we were sitting around the table so he could wish me a Happy Birthday and then had everyone sing to me. I just love him!

While we were out to dinner with friends, the waitress brought me a complimentary mini hot fudge sundae which I promptly proceeded to dump in my lamp. I tell ya what, can't take me anywhere!

So now I'm starting my 29th year...

I have been one blessed girl and I have so much to be thankful for!

Just for the record...30 isn't looking so old anymore! :)

2011 Garden Update

Off work today. Spending time with fam and soaking up some sun. Busy weekend finishing up VBS @ church.

I guess we figure go big or go home, because with our first garden attempt, we went big! Well, I think so at least. Nathan didn't want me to take pictures of the garden because there are lots of weeds :) However, I still think he's done a great job growing some produce for us to enjoy.

Our pear tree is also starting to produce. It isn't ready but at least they resemble pears now! Before you know it, we'll have a cow and pig fenced in trying to grow our own meat too! Now that Nathan would love to do! :) Oh help me!

Today starts my 4-day weekend! I'm so happy to have my brother and his family in town. However, this evening we will be attending the viewing of a family friend. Mrs. Himelick was practically like an adopted Grandma to me when we lived in Upland. I would ride my bike up the long lane to her house and she would give me bubble gum and sit and talk with me. I have a lot of childhood memories that included her and her family. She will certainly be missed!

I know I just wore this dress, but if you are judging, you simply don't understand how comfortable it is! I want to wear it nearly everyday. I found that pairing it with a bold cardi really helped all of the colors pop. I also did something a little different for me and added a little braid in my hair this morning :)

If you love chicken, pasta, cheese and the thought of it mixed together - you really need to try this recipe! I don't have specifics...you gotta just throw things in together and mix it up! I got the recipe from my sister-in-law, Tanessa.

1 can - cream of mushroom soup

1/2 block - velveeta cheese

1 can - rotel

small box of spaghetti noodles

chicken breasts / canned chicken - shredded

-------------------------

Boil noodles. Drain water. Mix in cream of mushroom, shredded chicken, rotel and velveeta cheese. If you mix on stove, simply mix until cheese is melted.

Should you wish to bake, bake at 350* for 25 minutes or so.

House Update: 25 July 2011

Nathan is working on a BIG project at the house this week. We have to insulate our duct work in the crawl space and fix the concrete step and sidewalks in front of our house. You see, we have several projects that need completed before we can hang the siding.

My sincere hope is to not go into another winter with the outside of our house looking like this:

I currently have no step at the front door. My brother, Seth, and Nathan worked to bust up all of the concrete and then we haven't really had a way to haul it away. This part of our project is kind of "pay as you go"...kind of makes things happen on a timeline different than what I had previously imagined. HOWEVER, I'm just thankful we are still making progress and love our little home.

Yesterday Nathan was able to haul away the piles of concrete. Now we can make plans to pour the new sidewalks and front step.

I'm feeling a little bit of whiplash from the weekend. We didn't have a lot planned, yet I still feel like it left me whirling. Friday evening was low key at home. Saturday was VBS (Vacation Bible School) prep with my church and swimming at the in-laws. Sunday was busy with church services, pitch-in dinner and time with friends. Monday seems to always come around WAY TOO quick!

Thanks to a new policy at work, I have quite a few vacation days over the next few weeks. I'm thankful for my 4 day work week and extended time with family over the upcoming weekend.

Happy weekend, y'all! It is SO EXTREMELY hot here. I plan to spend some time in my mother-in-law's pool and relax as much as possible. This week has been busy and tiring. I have spent the last two days at a Department of Labor compliance seminar. I do not advise it...for anyone...ever :) In all seriousness, some of the information was important for me to hear, but wow, the DOL has a hard time explaining things when they don't have a timeline or full definition of the law. We skipped out on the last session and called it a day. I was thankful as I had absorbed all that was going to be absorbed at that point!

And no, I didn't wear this cardigan two days in a row...the previous set of pictures were actually from last week. Just in case you would happen to notice that!! :)

I was so excited to be able to welcome my brother and his family back to the USA! They flew in on Thursday and they sure had a crew at the airport to welcome them. They had been traveling since the morning of the previous day...tired was an understatement! However, we had a great time visiting and enjoying a nice dinner with them.

I'm a little unclear why we look at anyone else to determine what is cool or stylish, but that seems to be the way it is. Some styles lately are simply not my preference...and that's ok as we all don't need to look alike. However, I try to find a balance with stylish, comfortable AND modest.

I'm always encouraged to see famous people embrace being stylish and modest! I didn't necessarily jump on the William & Kate bandwagon, but their story is interesting to me none the less. I was excited to see pictures of their recent tour where she was so adorably dressed and accented.

Another busy weekend to usher in the feeling of a brutal Monday morning. It seems to be the norm...

However, I'm thankful for the things and people in my life that keep me busy. I'm thankful for family and that we were able to help celebrate two birthdays this weekend. I'm thankful for friendship and that we were able to swim and fellowship with friends Friday evening. I'm thankful for strength that we were able to help friends fix up their house Saturday before a move this week. I'm thankful for wisdom...and parents that are willing to talk through situations that feel big and overwhelming to us.

Kind of helps put things in perspective when you think through it all...

So this is what our living room has looked like since we moved in. Not alot of color and not sure where I was headed with it...

I finally got my couch last week. Now I have to save up funds to finish decorating the rest of the room. Thankfully I already had my curtains and decorative pillows on hand. It's coming together...slowly but surely. I'm happy with the changes already! I'm working on some ideas to help lighten up the room as I finish decorating...

So I get home yesterday and see that my brother and my husband had used a jackhammer to bust up all of the sidewalks and steps around the house. The old cement was poured horribly, which has lead to drainage issues and potentially unstable walkways. They worked so hard...poor Nathan's back and arms were seizing up. This mound of debris is just one of many around the front of the house now...ah, the joys of a home remodel :) I've just got to say - I'm sure thankful for a husband that can physically & mentally handle the challenges of this project. I'm one blessed woman!

I have the day off today. Our air conditioner hasn't been working since last week and they are finally coming out to fix it - yah! I don't mind the warmer temps until it gets muggy in the house. I can be a wimp and I do not enjoy being uncomfortable! No complaining though...this gave me an excuse to use some vacation hours and enjoy the day getting things caught up at home.
